This is a photo lifted from our annual of Bobby Kinney and me (Mike Tripp) running low hurdles. (Note: Bobby’s good form vs. mine going over the hurdle.)
Coach McCauley noted that Bobby and I took two extra steps between hurdles and he advised us that we were losing time because of it. He’d already taught us to get low over the hurdles in order to get back down on the track quicker. As you can see Bobby learned. I thought I had too until I saw this picture after it was made.
Coach suggested that we take longer strides and alternate our leading leg as we approached the next hurdle. It sounded logical but I lacked the discipline to make myself do it. Bobby picked up on it and practiced it until it became natural. The results; Bobby consistently placed in every meet. Me? I did well to finish 3rd in all our meets.
This picture (above) has been a reminder to me to apply what I learn in life by practicing until it becomes second nature. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or ashamed of them. We should learn from them; pick ourselves up and try again.
No I’m still not perfect but I am a work in progress and God isn’t through with me yet but He expects my best efforts.
p.s. Bobby wanted individual pictures made but Coach McCauley nixed that. I’m glad because I needed to see how bad I looked beside Bobby.
Thanks Coach McCauley
