Fifty years is a long time to reminisce. The teachers and coaches that left an impression on me were Julia Lesser in Mathematics and Coach Charles Turner. Having played footbal in junior and senior high, you never forget your teammates or the coaches. Julia Lesser made mathematics both interesting and intriguing. Coach Charles Turner was a strict disciplinarian and very demanding. The above … [Read more...]
Mary Lee Thompson
My favorite teacher was Miss Mary Lee Thompson, English 11Tth & 12th: She inspired me to be a teacher, which I was. I kept up with Miss Thompson until her death, 2 months before her 101st Birthday. I shared many of her birthdays with Miss Thompson. On one occasion, I picked Miss Thompson up and brought her to Dallas to share my 50th Birthday Party with me and my friends. She stayed the … [Read more...]
Bea Dunning and Margaret Caskey
My favorite teachers at Paschal were Bea Dunning (art) and Margaret Caskey (journalism). Perhaps I should say mentors, not teachers. I was not very teachable. But the quiet leadership of those two kind and devoted women did allow me to learn SOMETHING in high school. - Garland Bills … [Read more...]
Margaret Mitchell
My absolutely favorite teacher was Margaret Mitchell in mathematics. She not only taught, but she also inspired. The preparation received from her carried me easily through my four freshman math courses at Texas Tech. Her inspiration led to my eventual selection of mathematics as my college major and two degrees. I always remember that she encouraged me to become president of Allied Youth … [Read more...]
Margaret Caskey
I can't say there were any teachers that were my "favorites", as all teachers at Paschal were good teachers. But, I will choose one: Margaret Caskey. I guess, through her, I began to come (slowly, granted) out of my shell. She insisted it was PHS's turn to have the president of the high school journalism society, and I was HER selected choice. Never before had I been able to get up in front … [Read more...]
Doc Benson
Doc Benson: She is one of my favorite teachers. It would take too long to write about every one of the teachers that made a huge difference in my life so I will just write about “the” one. In the 10th grade I was in her chemistry class. In the 1st 6 weeks I scored an 90 on a test and she gave me a C. I complained loudly saying it wasn’t fair. She said I was capable of doing much better work and … [Read more...]
Louise Bomar and William Reid
John (Johnny) Thompson Received "Rules for Entering Texas" yesterday from Mike Tripp, and it was a pleasure. You mentioned terrific teachers at Paschal. My favorite was Louise Bomar, Spanish. It is because of her that I pursued the language at TCU and went to South America to work for Esso and practice it. I liked her style; still remember the music she shared with us and made us memorize … [Read more...]
Ms. Margaret Mitchell and Ms. Caroline Gaither
My favorite teachers were Ms. Margaret Mitchell and Ms. Caroline Gaither in the Mathematics Department. Both teachers were very fair but they were no nonsense demanding teachers. They provided me the mathematic skills to be carried forward in both my college years and the business world. I am very proud to have studied under their supervision. Coach Turner was a teacher who taught me how to … [Read more...]
